Tserkov' Svyatogo Arkhangela Mikhaila, Naliboki In Belarus: History,Facts, & Services

Tserkov' Svyatogo Arkhangela Mikhaila, Naliboki is a Russian Orthodox church in the village of Naliboki, Belarus. The church was built in 1784 and is a fortified, whitewashed structure with a blue roof. Inside, there are two levels of windows and a large iconostasis separating the nave from the sanctuary. The church still has a bell tower, although the bells were removed in the 19th century. The church is associated with several historical events, most notably Nikita Sirin's abortive uprising in 1839, when Sirin was captured outside its walls. The church also once housed a school, which was destroyed during the Second World War. It was the site of a mass burial in 1942, when Nazi soldiers killed hundreds of people from the surrounding villages and buried them in the churchyard. Today, Tserkov' Svyatogo Arkhangela Mikhaila, Naliboki is still an active place of worship. It holds several services every week, including Sunday Mass, evening vespers, and an All-Night Vigil. The church building has also been renovated over the years and is now an important part of the local landscape.
