History:
The construction of the church began in December 1829, following a decree issued by Tsar Alexander I of Russia. The design was chosen after a competition between many renowned St. Petersburg architects, with the winning design coming from Vasily Stasov. Construction was completed in 1833, with the building's foundation being laid the same year. Over the years the church has undergone a number of renovations and its interior has been completely redone. As of 2020, it is one of St. Petersburg’s most popular tourist destinations. Tserkov' Sv. The church’s main entrance is situated on Nevsky Prospekt, directly opposite the equestrian statue of Alexander III. It is one of the largest churches in the city, with the bell tower reaching a height of 91 meters. Inside, the church has five domes and three main altars, each dedicated to a different saint.
