History:

The St. Margaret’s Anglican Church was established in 1628 when it was dedicated the same day as the British fleet landed on the island. It was dedicated to St. Margaret, a communion of saints or a gathering of holy souls that has been held since the 3rd century in Barbados. The original building of the church was destroyed in a hurricane, but it was quickly rebuilt and expanded in size. One of the original tombs, that of Captain John Lamorenks, is still visible. The church was greatly expanded and improved in the late 19th century by renowned local architect Walter Gomes. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Barbados.
