History
The Speightstown Methodist Church was founded in 1820 by lay members of the Wesleyan Methodist Connection, led by Reverend William Sandiford. It was originally known as the St. Peter’s Methodist Church, but was renamed in 1854 in recognition of the town of Speightstown.
Facts
Speightstown Methodist Church is famous for its tower which is made of solid coral and rises more than 35 feet high. The church is the first Methodist church that was built in Barbados, and is now the oldest surviving example still used for worship.

Speightstown Methodist Church offers a variety of services, including Sunday Worship, mid-week Bible Study, and Life Groups. It has a strong youth program and additional organ-accompanied services on the first and third Sundays of each month.
