History:

Queen's Park, also known as Pavilion Gardens, was originally created in 1823 as a botanical garden by the British government to commemorate the silver jubilee of King George IV. It is the oldest public park in Barbados, and served as a gathering place for the island's citizens. The grounds were initially used to cultivate plants, fruit and vegetables, as part of a project to help the poor. However, it soon became a popular spot for recreation and spiritual renewal, with people gathering to play games and take part in religious services under the shade of citrus trees.
