History:
Bathsheba Park is a park in Saint Joseph, Barbados. The park's name comes from the nearby village of Bathsheba which was founded in 1737. The area has been populated since the 17th century with the name allegedly coming from the daughter of Nebuchadnezzar, a biblical figure. Bathsheba Park opened on November 15th, 1883 by the then Governor William Robinson, and Lord Gillford. He named it after the Bathsheba area which lies right next to the park. It rapidly became a popular spot for socializing and recreation for the nearby residents. The park was designed in the Victorian style with flowerbeds, a fountain, and walkways. In 1921 the park underwent a major redevelopment. It was enlarged and landscaped with a fountain being added in the centre. Numerous other additional features were added making it a much larger and attractive feature for the surrounding area. Over the years it has been used as a venue for events such as concerts and plays put on by local groups. Today Bathsheba Park continues to be a popular attraction and is often enjoyed by locals and tourists alike who come to enjoy its tranquil surroundings and many features.
