History:

The Four Square Rum Distillery and Heritage Park is located on the eastern side of the Caribbean island of Barbados. It has been producing rum at this same location since 1893. The distillery has been in operation for over a hundred years and is the oldest rum distillery in Barbados, and one of the oldest in the world. The main feature of this historic distillery is the unique Barbadian process of making rum. This process takes place using a double retort system which allows for the mix of molasses and water to be run through two stages of distillation. This process enables the rum to reach a high ABV level in a very short amount of time. The rum produced by this award-winning distillery is exported around the world. It has won awards including a Gold Medal at the International Wine and Spirits Competition, as well as a received a Superlative rating from the Magazine of Taste & Quality in Europe. The heritage park adjacent to this distillery was opened in 2019 to celebrate its rich history and its importance to Barbados. It includes a museum featuring artifacts and information about the past century of rum production and local rum culture.
