Architecture:
The Sherpur Jama Masjid, located in Sherpur in the district of Bogra, Bangladesh, is an impressive example of Islamic architecture. The mosque is composed of four visible towers, one on each side of the raised plinth, and the rest are concealed in the walls. The towers are adorned with terracotta plaques and hold bell-shaped domes. The mosque is constructed of exposed red brick and mortar, and is decorated with plaster and ornate terracotta carving. Inside the main structure are three mihrabs, which are decorated with intricate plaster detailing and terracotta plaques. The qibla wall of the mosque also contains two arched niches. The sole entrance to the mosque is through a pointed arch doorway that leads to a large, pillared hall; the mihrabs and the qibla wall are on the far side of the hall. The mosque is also decorated with an unusual perforated brickwork, which is characteristic of Islamic architecture in Bengal during the Mughal period.
