. The Shariatpur Central Jame Mosque, located in the Sadar Upazila district of Shariatpur District, is one of the most important and historical mosques in Bangladesh. It was built in the 16th century by one of the most renowned rulers of the area - Sultan Hussain Shah. The mosque is an embodiment of Sultan Hussain Shah’s excellent architectural knowledge and skills, evident in its gracious design and intricate carvings. It has a vast rectangular chamber with a large vaulted arched roof that is supported by 28 massive pillars and decorated with terracotta foliage. The walls are decorated with intricate carvings of centuries-old Persian and Arabic calligraphy. The central part of the mosque is covered by a handsome dome that is covered by geometric patterns painted in gold and green. The entire complex is surrounded by a high wall and several outer halls. The inner court has several tombs of important Muslim saints and scholars, like Haji Shah Hasan and Haji Mohammad Ibne Ali Mollah.
