The construction of the mosque was started by Syed Shaheed Alauddin during the Jahangir period and completed during the reign of Shahjahan in 1662 AD. The mosque consists of a large central prayer chamber and four open verandahs in the East, North, South and West. The total area of the mosque is 28000 sq. ft. with five minarets, three main doors and 54 doors around the mosque. The dome is crowned with a semi-circular pinnacle. The walls of the mosque are slightly curved into a wavy shape, and inscriptions from the Quran have been engraved into them. The interior of the mosque is adorned with verses of the Quran on its walls, while the mihrab is richly decorated with floral motifs. The architectural style of the mosque is relatively simple but elegant, with a mixture of Persian and Islamic influences. The main focus is on the dome and the minarets, which are both impressive and attract attention. The mosque is highly revered and has been estimated to have been offering its five daily prayers uninterruptedly since it was built.
