Built during the Mughal period, the mosque wasoriginally known as Jamal Khan Mosque, after its founder, Jamal Khan, a Mughal nobleman of the eighteenth century. The mosque is a blend of Sufism, Indo-Islamic and traditional Bengali architecture. The mosque was built with lime, brick and plaster. It stands on a raised platform. The magnificently-ornamented adja – a high mound – is encircled by a wall, in four semicircular bastions, with 15 feet high towers.
