Brief History:

Baufal Jame Mosque is located in the town of Baufal, Patuakhali in Bangladesh. It was built in the mid-18th century and is considered to be one of the oldest and grandest mosques of the district. This mosque was constructed by a local leader and was later renovated in the year 1800. It is said that the land and funds for the mosque construction were generously contributed by the locals. The mosque has a unique, octagonal structure and a façade adorned with intricate designs and floral motives. It stands atop a huge plinth of more than 30 feet and consists of five large domes along with several smaller domes. The mosque has two significant entrances located at it's eastern and western sides. Inside the premises of the mosque, there are several smaller rooms, a Madrasah, a large open courtyard and prayer hall. Nowadays, the mosque is popularly known as Baufal Masjid and is visited by tourists from near and far. It is one of the most famous mosque in Bangladesh which you must visit.

The two-storey Baufal Mosque complex measures 26.6m square and is composed of many impressive structures. The mosque has three entrances, each forming the opening to a stunning and spacious courtyard. Two of the entrances lead to the main prayer hall, which has two towering minarets and three impressive archways that form the confines. The archways and the courtyard space feature large, white marble pillars, and the walls and floors are decorated with beautiful terracotta azulejo tiles, which lend a touch of luxury to the otherwise simple mosque. Within the mosque, the floor is finely covered with red stones imported from Persia, and the walls and ceilings are decorated with intricate stucco ornaments and calligraphy. Among the many features that make the Baufal Mosque a unique display of Islamic architecture, are the two impressive domes. One of the domes is Madanmohan, which displays intricate carvings and paintings, while the other is Rasul-Us-Salaam, which is octagonal in shape and mesmerizingly adorned from top to bottom. Despite the chaos of the urban sprawl that now surrounds the mosque, Baufal continues to stand as a beautiful testament to the past, and a reminder of the Mughal-style architecture that once thrived throughout the whole of Bangladesh. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
