Brief History:
: is one of the oldest mosques in the district of Jamalpur, Bangladesh. It was built in the year 1650 and is believed to have been built by the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. The mosque is a three-domed rectangular structure with merlons and corner minarets. The interiors are decorated with calligraphy in the form of kufic writing. The mosque also has a spacious courtyard and a single minift that has an inscription of the Qur'an. The mosque has undergone some renovations but its original structure is still intact. It is one of the most famous mosque in Bangladesh which you must visit.
Architecture:
The Bakshiganj Jame Mosque of Jamalpur is a traditional Islamic style mosque built in 1545 AD. It is a single-domed brick-built mosque with a wide mihrab built with several Islamic symbols like Koranic inscriptions, floral motifs and geometric patterns. The mosque has four entrances, each of which is intricately embellished with enormous terracota artistry. The northern entrance is larger than the others and features a large stone inscription written in Arabic. The main prayer hall is divided into four aisles (rukn) and is decorated with beautiful multi-coloured tiles. Inside the mosque, there is an octagonal shaped minaret which is one of the most attractive features of this place. The mosque also contains twelve square shaped chajjas (windows) on the west facade, which give the building a unique look. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
