Brief History:
Goranboy Central Mosque is the oldest mosque in the Goygol Region of Azerbaijan. It is located in the center of Goranboy town, and is believed to date back to 1771. The mosque is known for its beautiful Caucasian architectural style and especially for its extremely tall minarets, one of which is 35 meters high. It was reconstructed in the 1990s and has since been restored to the present day. The Goranboy Central Mosque is considered a place of historical and architectural importance in Azerbaijan and the region. It is one of the most famous mosque in Azerbaijan which you must visit.
Architecture:
The Goranboy Central Mosque in Azerbaijan is an example of Early Ottoman architecture with traditional details from the Safavid era. It is a single-domed mosque constructed in 1737 during the reign of Nadir Shah. The mosque is rectangular in shape and consists of two floors. The main entrance is located in the center of the facade and is decorated with half-columns. The minaret is located on the northwest corner of the mosque and features an octagonal tower with a balcony. Inside, the prayer hall is covered by two domes and aligned along the longitudinal axis. This central nave is surrounded by two side galleries and is lit by five windows in the upper walls. The mihrab and minbar are elaborately ornate and feature intricate plasterwork and tile decoration. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
