Architecture:
Shamkir Tazapir Mosque is a 13th century masterpiece of architecture that was built on the banks of the Kura River in Azerbaijan. It is a masterpiece of Seljuk architecture and is believed to have been built by a group of artisans from Baghdad. The mosque has a rectangular shape with a large courtyard in the middle enclosed by four high entrance gates. The inner walls of the mosque are decorated with colorful tiles depicting floral, geometric and epigraphic forms in beautiful blue, green, yellow and red hues. Inside the mosque, there is a mihrab with an inscription above it in Arabic along with other embellishments such as a cupola reaching up into the sky and several domed and minarets. In its day, the mosque served as a spiritual house for the local people of the region.
