Gadabay Mosque, also known as Amirli Mosque, is one of Azerbaijan’s oldest and most important mosques. It is located in Gadabay, a city in the Shahbuz district of the country’s Ganja-Gazakh Region. The mosque was built between the 8th and 10th centuries, in the Arabic architectural style. Its construction materials were brought from the Bibos city of Ganja. In its center, there is a large open yard surrounded by two minarets. The building is rectangular from the outside, but inside it is octagonal. The mosque has undergone several renovations. In 1496, it was expanded by adding two additional stories to the existing structure. In 1587, it was renovated by Sultan Murad III and its courtyard was rebuilt. It then underwent further alteration by Ottoman Turks in the 18th century. Today, Gadabay Mosque remains an important religious and cultural center for Azerbaijanis. It is known for its historical importance and unique architecture. The mosque is still home to many religious ceremonies, festivals, and rituals.
