Santa María Rotonda (Iglesia de los Dominicanos) is a historic Roman Catholic church located in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. It is considered a major landmark in the city, and is one of the earliest churches built by the Dominican friars. The church was built by Friar Bartolome de Las Casas in 1540, and was the starting point of the Dominican Order in the New World. As such, the church is a major example of Dominican religious architecture and contains a number of historical artifacts and objects of veneration. History:

Santa María Rotonda was first constructed in 1540 as the original seat of the Dominican Order. Friar Bartolome de Las Casas oversaw the construction of the church and the adjoining monastery. The church was originally dedicated to St. Jude, but was later changed to the Virgin Mary in 1549. Throughout the 17th and 18th centuries, the church was renovated several times, and was eventually consecrated by Pope Benedict the Third. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Austria.
