Vardan Zoravar Curch In Armenia: History,Facts, & Services
Vardan Zoravar Church is a large Armenian Apostolic church situated in the town of Vardenis, in the Vardenis region of Armenia. The Vardan Zoravar Church is a two-storey building with a highly unusual form. The building’s name is believed to originate from the War of Vardan Mamikonian which took place in 451 AD and till this day, is celebrated as one of the greatest victories in the history of Armenia.
The church was renovated and expanded by Philipos, the son of Melikset Melkom, in 1745 and has been a pilgrimage site for the Armenian people since that time. The exterior of the Vardan Zoravar Church is comprised of large stone blocks with several small windows and a rounded dome. The interior of the building is decorated by a large dome, stone monuments, and several frescoes from the 16th century.
The Vardan Zoravar Church provides religious services to locals and visitors alike, and its main services are prayers and devotional singing. The church also holds various spiritual events such as a singing of prayers, a presentation on the history of the church, and a celebration of the Victory of Vardan Mamikonian.
