History:

Johnson’s Point is a small fishing village in Antigua and Barbuda situated in the south-east of the Lesser Antilles. It is located approximately two miles southeast of the capital St. John's. The village is known for its traditional heritage, and its close proximity to the Caribbean Sea. The name Johnson's Point is derived from the original French settlers of the island who named it Point Kerlo, later renamed by the English settlers in the mid- 1700s as Johnson’s Point. The village is also known locally as Back Street. Johnson's Point has been at the centre of the island's fishing industry for centuries. It has traditionally been home to many small fishing boats owned by members of the local Johnson's Point community, however these fishing vessels have now been replaced with modern motor boats and equipment. In 1846 the British built a fort in Johnson's Point. The fort, now known as Fort Alexander, was designed to defend the island from French invasions. It was equipped with a variety of cannons and other weapons, and it is still in use today as a national monument. The community of Johnson's Point is a tight-knit one, and it is home to some of the most dedicated fishermen and fish traders in the islands, which only adds to the village's charm. The village is famed for its strong Christian faith, and many of the weekly Sunday services are still attended in English. The rare plant was discovered by Sir Thomas Antrobus Johnson, the youngest son of William Johnson, who served as the First Governor of Antigua. 3. In the late 1700s an English trader named the Anne Elizabeth went aground off Johnson's Point and sank with its cargo of molasses, sugar, and rum. 4. Johnson’s Point is an excellent spot for swimming and snorkeling, with rocky tide pools to explore. 6.
