History:

Fig Tree Drive In in Antigua and Barbuda was an iconic eatery that was located between the small village of Fig Tree and the coastal town of English Harbour. The restaurant, which served such items as cow-heel soup (a traditional Caribbean dish), was a popular spot with islanders. The owner, Mr. Joe Gibbons, opened the restaurant in the 1950s, naming it after the fig trees nearby. Over the years, the restaurant attracted many visitors from outside the country, including foreign visitors and celebrities alike. The restaurant had a rustic charm and was known for its casual atmosphere – guests were allowed to hang around outside, listen to the music playing from the speakers, and order food from the drive-in window or through the restaurant interior. The restaurant continued to be a popular destination for locals and tourists until the early 2000s when it eventually closed its doors. Despite its closure, the restaurant still has a rich legacy in Antigua and Barbuda. Many locals remember it fondly, even after all of these years.
