History:

Encamp Sports Centre, located in the mountain parish of Encamp in Andorra, has been around since the early 1900s. Originally it was a small skiing resort visited by wealthy families from the Pyrenees. Over time the resort developed into a full-fledged international destination for winter sports. In 1926, Encamp Sports Centre opened its first ski area, the “Paramos de Encamp”. This area featured the longest runs ever in Andorra. In the early 1970s, the centre was renovated and a ski lift was installed, which made the ski facilities popular for near-by visitors. In 1976, a cable car station was opened in Encamp Sports Centre, connecting it with Canillo and Pal-Arinsal at the Arinsal Ski Resort. At this point in time, the centre started to gain more visitors, increasing its popularity. In the late 1980s, the centre was refurbished and modernized, including the installation of additional ski lifts and an improved snowmaking system. In 1988, the Encamp Winter Sports School was opened to train locals and international visitors. The centre continued to develop and new snowboard and ski courses were offered in the 1990s. In 2002, the Encamp Ski World Cup competition was held at the centre where top international athletes competed from all around the world. Today the centre is a popular destination for both Andorra residents and international visitors. The centre also offers a variety of activities such as snowshoeing, ice skating, suspension bridges, disco roller-skating, and even an open-air cinema.
