History:

The Comapedrosa Valley National Park located in the Principality of Andorra is the only protected area of natural landscape in the country. The park was established by Law 8/2008 on the 8th of May 2008 in order to safeguard its remarkable biodiversity and natural beauty. The park spans across 6,242 hectares and is the highest valley in the Pyrenees, with its highest peak, the Comapedrosa peak, reaching 2,942 meters above sea level. The valley is home to a diverse array of flora and fauna and has been identified by Birdlife International as an important area of bird conservation due to the presence of globally threatened species such as the White-backed Woodpecker (Dendrocopos leucotos). The area is also home to a number of rare species of flowers including Andorra's National Flower, the Pyrenean Gentian (Gentiana pyrenaica).
