History:

The Beni Abbes, or Beni-Abbès, is a Berber branch of the Modouceur Confederation. The Beni-Abbès is the largest and most important tribe of the Modouceur Confederation and is located in the region of Béchar, Algeria. They historically inhabit the region between Mzab in the north and the frontier of Morocco in the south. They are traditionally nomadic pastoralists but also practice crop cultivation, mainly farming and the production of honey. The Beni Abbes have a rich historical heritage, believed to date back to the 4th century. The tribe's first historical mention is in 740 C.E. when they were mentioned in the Arabic Islamic novel, Laqat Muhimma. The tribe was largely involved in trade and their circle of influence growing as far as the cities of Tlemcen and Fez.
