The Sher Ali Khan Mausoleum is located in the city of Balkh in northern Afghanistan. It serves as the final resting place for the royal family of the last ruling dynasty of Balkh, the Musahiban. The four sided building is artistically decorated and stands on a platform raised upon 78 gilds of Persian Archetype. The main dome of the mausoleum is highlighted with a patterned turquoise mosaic that dates back to the 15th century. A series of grand arches, ornate carvings and colorful tiles surrounds the lower level that consists of three smaller mosques and a qanat. Within the confines of the mausoleum there is a magnificent garden and a large pool with numerous fountains that add a touch of lushness to the entire premise.
