The tomb was restored in 1962 by the former King of Afghanistan, who commissioned the calligrapher and artist, Taj Uddin Ansari, to decorate the chamber with intricate plaster carvings. The tomb is a large stone structure built around a central chamber, surrounded by four columns standing in the four corners of the building. The chamber is decorated with a variety of inscriptions in Persian poetry, as well as gilt-and-embroidery paintings of Imam Ali and several other historical figures.
