This is the unique concept of promoting major irrigation areas in the state which was constructed in the past eight years. These projects are created around scenic beauty and hence they are planning to promote these projects as tourists place too. In the last eight years, the state government has developed many irrigation projects including Kaleshwaram, Sundilla, Mid-Manair, Medigadda, Annaram, Mallannasagar, Ranganayaka Sagar, Konda Pochamma, and Baswapur.
Over one crore acres of crops are watered by each of these powerful reservoirs. At the same time, they are all situated in beautiful areas that can be transformed into popular tourist attractions, according to state tourism minister V Srinivas Goud, who spoke last week in Hyderabad at the opening of the travel and tourism fair.
According to him, the idea to turn irrigation projects into tourist attractions was conceived by chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, who requested that the tourism department build out facilities for tourism at these projects.
According to B Manohar Rao, managing director of Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation (TSTDC), the state budget for this year included 750 crores for the development of irrigation projects as tourist destinations as part of an eco-tourism circuit.
The government is working on the idea to create these irrigation areas as one of the most attractive tourist places in Telangana. This will also increase the awareness of irrigation and educate people about it.
