From now onwards, DY-registered passengers at Delhi, Varanasi, and Bengaluru airports will not need to present physical ID proof for boarding their flights. Firstly, passengers have to complete a facial verification procedure and verify their identification to take full advantage of this newly launched technology, which will also record their travel information.
Jyotiraditya Scindia, the Union Aviation Minister, recently launched face recognition technology at three airports. According to the statement of the minister, four more airports (Hyderabad, Kolkata, Pune, and Vijayawada) would be DY-enabled during the first phase that lasts by the end of March 2023.
The aviation minister went on to say that this is a sign that other airports will get the same treatment in the future.Â
The minister said that the project will make it possible for travelers to go to more than one airport using a paperless and contactless method that uses facial features to verify their identity and may be linked to their boarding card. For this function to work, you need to register once on the DY App using Aadhaar-based validation and take a picture of yourself. According to him, the initiative will significantly improve travel convenience for passengers.
Additionally, he stated that, in consideration of privacy, there is no central repository for “personally identifiable information” (PII) issues. According to him, the passenger’s ID and travel credentials are kept in a secure wallet on their smartphone. All uploaded data will be encrypted using blockchain technology before being deleted from the servers 24 hours after use.
Earlier this year, Delhi’s IGI Airport was ranked as the world’s 10th busiest Airport and by utilizing biometric identification, Indian airports will be able to compete with top-tier airports like Atlanta and London Heathrow.
