About National Palace Museum

Originally founded within the walls of the Forbidden City in Beijing in 1925, today’s National Palace Museum moved to the Shilin District of Taipei after the government of the Republic of China was relocated in 1949 and officially opened to the public in 1965. More than 600,000 of the most valuable finds in the collection have been sent to Taiwan to prevent their humiliation during and after the Chinese Civil War. The museum is currently celebrating its 90th anniversary. The all-modern museum, the Palace Museum, also participates in Taiwan’s National Digital Archive Program, digitally preserving its ancient artifacts with the latest advances in digital technology, and using state-of-the-art technology to enhance visitors ’museum experience. The museum’s exhibits on 4 floors and 2 exhibition halls are constantly rotating, as only a small percentage of the museum’s collection is available at a given time to prevent wear and tear.

If you want to save money, the best way from the city center is to take a direct 30-minute shuttle from Taipei 101 for NT 100 ($ 3.25). You must book this mode of convenience ahead of time on KKday’s website. The EasyCard cannot be used on the bus. Once booked, all you have to do is show the QR code to the driver for boarding. The ticket comes with the instructions. The shuttle boarding point is located on City Hall Road, at one of the entrances to the Taipei 101 building, on the western edge of the building. Take exit 4 from Taipei 101 / World Trade Center Subway 4, then go west until you reach City Hall Road, cross the road, turn right to go north and walk for 30 seconds, or see the entrance to Taipei 101. There are also large teal KKday stickers on the ground that point in the right direction, so you won’t get lost.

By Metro and Public Bus

Alternatively, the cheapest way to reach the National Palace Museum is to use the subway and public bus. Take the red subway to Shilin Subway Station, then take the R30 bus to get to the museum. The R30 bus costs just 15 NT (50 cents to the US). When you get to Shilin subway station, use exit 1 (north exit) to get out. Walk north for another 100 meters until you reach Zhongzhen Road, which is the first major road you can meet. Once you reach Zhongzhen Road, the bus stop is on your right. Don’t cross the road. In R30, “R” means red. There will be a lot of red on the board and on the bus as well, so keep an eye on this color. The bus is one of the low-floor buses.
