History:
The Old Katsina Training College (OKTC) was established in 1958 as a Government Training College for Secondary School Teachers in Katsina State of Nigeria. The College was formally inaugurated on the first of October 1958 with 40 pioneer students and mainly concentrated on training Secondary School Teachers in the then associated provinces, Kano, Katsina and Sokoto. It grew rapidly to its peak in the early nineties with eight faculties including the Faculty of Education with different degree modes. By the time the College was converted to a degree awarding institution in September of 1998, there were over 10,000 enrolled students. From its inaugural year to the present time, the College has played an invaluable role in the education and development of the people of Katsina State. The College has prodiced a number of notable Kastinawans such as former Minister of Education, Dr. Muhammadu Ma’azu, amongst others. In 1964, the College was renamed Katsina Training College and in 1976, the College formally became part of the Ahmadu Bello University System. This amalgamation led to the renaming of the college to the present name: Old Katsina Training College (OKTC). Katsina State Government in 1999, following the realization of its 1987 wish, and in line with the efforts of the then Chief Executive Officer of the College, Alahji Mamma Abdullahi, established the Katsina State University, located at Dutsin-Ma. This marked the formal phasing out of OKTC as a Degree awarding College. However, the college remained functional and still played a vital role in the production of professional teachers until July 2016 when the Katsina State Government, transformed the College into a Polytechnic and with its inclusion in the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) as a fully fledged Technical College.
