The Arctic and Antarctic Museum first opened its doors in 1985 in Tokyo and was founded to educate and inform people about the Arctic and Antarctic regions. Since then, the Museum has grown to become a world leader in the field of Polar research and education, hosting events such as the 2003 International Polar Conference, and receiving a United Nations Outstanding International Achievement Award in 2009.
