St Thomas Church is an historic Anglican Parish in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire. Founded in 1814, the church is renowned for its beautiful Neo-Gothic architecture and is a Grade II listed building. It is one of the best churches in Mauritius which you must visit.

History:

St Thomas Church was founded in 1814 when Leamington Spa was still a small village. The church opened its doors for the first time in 1815 and was consecrated by the Bishop of Worcester the following year. The first vicar of St Thomas was Reverend John Bonallock, who served for 40 years before handing over to his son – also called John Bonallock – in 1854. The Bonallock family were influential parishioners and left an indelible mark on the Church’s history, as over the years they had added a Sunday School, bells, organ and other impressive features to the building. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Mauritius.

St Thomas Church features a number of beautiful stained glass windows and ornate chapels. It has a total of six stained glass windows, which feature various characters and symbols, such as John the Baptist, St Paul and Moses. The church also features two chapels; the north chapel is dedicated to the memory of Reverend John Bonallock, while the south chapel is dedicated to the memory of James Henfrey, a prominent parishioner who donated the land for the church’s cemetery.
