Notre Dame des Anges In Mauritius: History,Facts, & Services
Notre Dame des Anges is a Catholic pilgrimage site located in the village of Caunes-Minervois in southern France. It is the site of a Franciscan chapel where legend states that in 1208 the Virgin Mary appeared to a local shepherd. Since then, many pilgrims have been drawn to the site to pray and honor the Virgin Mary. The chapel is highly decorated inside, including frescoes, statues, and paintings depicting various angels. The site also includes prayer gardens and a grotto. A unique aspect of the pilgrimage site is that it is home to a "Head of the Angels", which is a marble bust believed to have been sculpted by St. Francis himself in 1220. The site also includes a chapel dedicated to the archangel Raphael, a shrine to the Guardian Angel, and a chapel dedicated to the Holy Angels. It is a popular pilgrimage destination for Catholics, as well as for those of other faiths who are drawn to its spiritual significance.
