Worship Method:
, the temple of Sobek at Edfu is one of the most important temples dedicated to the god Sobek, the crocodile god. The main ritual of worship was centered on the cult statue of Sobek, which was located in the innermost part of the temple. The general format of the ritual involved entering the temple in a clockwise direction with hymns and reverent behavior, including the burning of incense and making offerings. The temple priest would then proceed to the innermost part of the temple and make a ceremonial offering to the god of Sobek. This ritual was followed by an afternoon of festive and joyous celebration, music, and dancing in the temple courtyard. In the evening, the ritual would be reversed in order as the priest would move out of the inner chamber and eventually out of the temple gate, chanting hymns and making offerings of food to the god. As the sun set, a symbolic sacrifice of an animal would be performed on the eastern side of the temple courtyard. The rituals at the Temple of Sobek at Edfu symbolically represented the story of the god Sobek, who was known as the protector of the Pharaoh and was believed to protect the Egyptians from harm.
