The church started as a mission station for the United Church of Christ (UCC) in Japan. The church's first pastor, Rev. Minoru Matsuda, was ordained in 1955. Matsuda dedicated his ministry to the establishment of the church and reaching the unreached people of the prefecture. In 1958, the church was welcomed into the Presbyterian Church in Japan and has become an integral part of the denomination ever since.
