History:

The Pyramid of Sahure is one of the oldest and most iconic pyramids located in the necropolis of Abusir, Egypt. Built in the Fifth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom, this pyramid is thought to have been completed around 2480 BC. The pyramid is attributed to Pharaoh Sahure, who was the second pharaoh of the Fifth Dynasty. This pyramid was the first to have an impressive exterior that incorporated large limestone blocks for its external walls and its corners were marked by four tiles with inscriptions of its owner. The total volume of the pyramid is estimated to have been 53,000 cubic meters (1.9 million cu. ft). The pyramid was part of a large complex, which is thought to have included a mortuary temple and a valley temple. The mortuary temple was located on the south side of the pyramid and was adorned with a variety of scenes and inscription. It was also connected to the pyramid via a long causeway. The valley temple is the only part of the complex that has been partially excavated and it contained a large granite false door and an entrance corridor. The internal structure of the Pyramid of Sahure is unique and includes three chambers with an inner descending corridor that provides access to the burial chamber. Unlike other pyramids of the same era, it lacks a burial shaft and there is no evidence of an inner laboratory inside the pyramid. Historians believe that the pyramid was used as a funerary monument and the remains of the Pharaoh were placed in a small secret chamber located at the base of the pyramid. The Pyramid of Sahure has been partially restored during the 19th century and further excavations are planned. The pyramid is popular among tourists, who are allowed to visit the pyramid and take pictures of its impressive structures. Visit one of the famous monuments of Egypt with your friends and family.
