History:
The Khabarovsk Regional Museum of Local Lore was founded in 1897, making it one of the oldest museums in the Far East of Russia. It initially focused on archaeology, although it subsequently branched out to include ethnology, zoology, geology and other categories. Its collections have grown over the years and now boast almost 300,000 items relating to the region's history, culture and nature. The museum was originally located in the heart of the city at a building known as the Ekateringof House, which was founded in 1840 by a German named Paul Ekateringof. The Ekateringof House itself was demolished in 1906 and the museum relocated to other parts of the city. During the Soviet era, the museum was moved to a new building in 1932 in order to provide more space for its growing collections. It was also renamed the Khabarovsk Oblast Local Lore Museum. In the 1980s, the museum experienced a period of stagnation and it was not until the 1990s and 2000s that it was revitalized, in part due to the efforts of E.P. Chukov. Today, the museum is located in a restored historical building on Gorsky Street and exhibits thousands of items spanning the history and culture of the Khabarovsk Oblast region. It is also a popular tourist destination, welcoming over 50,000 visitors every year. Visit one of the famous monuments of Russia with your friends and family.
