History:

The A.S. Pushkin Museum and Memorial Apartment is located in St. Petersburg, Russia. It is the former apartment of the famous poet Alexander Pushkin, who lived and wrote here for the six and a half years of his life. The museum is dedicated to preserving the memory of the writer, displaying manuscripts, personal belongings, furniture from the apartment, as well as works of art related to him; it is also the marker of Pushkin's grave, located in the Alexander Garden, opposite the museum. The museum was opened in 1881, at the site of Alexander Pushkin’s former apartment. It was initially created as a museum of folk artworks, with the idea of collecting memorabilia related to Pushkin's life and works. The museum was eventually turned into a memorial and renamed the "Pushkin Museum". The museum was renovated in 2002 and expanded with new galleries devoted to the life and works of the great poet.
