Ekdalia Evergreen Durga Puja is one of the oldest and most popular Durga Puja celebrations in Kolkata. The celebration begins with the idols of Goddess Durga, Lakshmi, Saraswati, Ganesha, Kartikeya, and Shiva and Parvati being brought in a procession to the temple. The priests then chant Vedic mantras and offer prayers to the deities. The in-depth rituals of Ekdalia Evergreen Durga Puja starts with Ashtapadi Upasana. Ashtapadi Upasana is a recitation of the 109 verses of the Ashtapadi hymns. It is believed to be a powerful prayer that can protect devotees from dangers. The Maa Durga Puja is then performed with great devotion as holy chants fill the air. After this, the famous Akal Boi Banay is performed. Akal Boi Banay is a procession in which young children and devotees carrying a decorated palanquin of nine goddesses, take part.
