History:
Bach Ma National Park is located in Thua Thien-Hue province, Vietnam. The park is situated some 60 km (37 miles) south of the Imperial City of Hue and about 30 km (19 miles) from the coast. It began life in 1937 when the French colonial government of Indochina declared it an official protected area and established it as the Bach Ma National Park. This park is a centre of biodiversity and is home to many rare and endangered species, including several types of primates, the spectacular crested serpent eagle, and the saola, a rare type of antelope. The park was an important site during the Vietnam War, as North Vietnamese troops frequently used it as a centre of operations and a base. In 2000, Bach Ma National Park was transferred back to the Vietnamese government.
