History:

The settlement of what is now the city of Los Aleros in the State of Mérida, Venezuela was founded in 1755 by the Spanish colonists. At first, it was a small settlement made up of a few families but eventually grew into a thriving city. The origin of the name of Los Aleros is believed to come from the Yucpa Indian vocabulary, which means "the one who lives in the waters". In the colonial period, Los Aleros served as a supply post for travelers and merchants, which was located on the Royal Road from Caracas to the Andean region. The city would go on to be the political and commercial center of the state of Mérida, with several important events taking place. In 1802, the Congress of the Year XIII was assembled here to reform the state constitution. In the 19th century, Los Aleros became a major transportation hub and saw the development of new roads, the construction of an aqueduct, and the introduction of telegraph lines connecting Mérida with the rest of Venezuela.
