Worship Method:
The Neelkanth Mahadev Temple in Rishikesh is considered to be one of the most sacred and powerful temples in India. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, who is also known as Neelkanth. The worship method followed in the Neelkanth Mahadev Temple is centered around the chanting of various mantras and aartis. Devotees come to the temple to perform daily Puja and offer their prayers to the Lord. The aarti is performed three times daily, at the morning, noon and evening hours respectively. The priests at the temple also perform Abhishek which involves pouring Gangajal or water from the Ganges river onto the Shiva Linga. Prasad is then distributed to the devotees, and everyone participates in singing bhajans and kirtans. As part of the rituals, people also take a dip in the chilly water of the Ganges river and seek forgiveness for their past sins. Milk, flowers and fruits are also offered to the deity.
