The worship method of Yamunotri Temple in Uttarakhand involves a number of pre-worship rituals to be performed by the devotees. These include taking a holy dip in the Yamuna river, worshipping the deity, offering puja to the idols, reciting mantras and chanting prayers, coupled with offering food and flowers to the deity. Devotees wear pewa or traditional clothing during the ritual. They also offer a seven-lamp diya to the deity, which is prepared by mixing rice, curd, and ghee in the traditional lamp. This diya is believed to provide peace and prosperity to all. Many devotees also perform ‘Yamuna pooja’ or ‘Ganga snan’, which is done by immersing a silver coin or an idol in the river in the morning. After this, devotees offer prayers and perform arati.
