Is said to have been built by Suryavanshi King Dashrath, father of Lord Shri Ram as it is believed that Goddess Gauri, the avatar of Goddess Parvati, had taken abode in Gaurikund after she meditated here for several years. The temple is located at a distance of about 16 kms from Kedarnath in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. It is believed that before proceeding towards Kedarnath, pilgrims stop at Gaurikund to take a holy dip in the hot water pond, which is also called Gauri Kund.
