The worship of Daksha Mahadev Temple in Haridwar follows the Vedic rituals of Hinduism. It is believed that Lord Shiva was in great rage after Daksha insulted him during a Yagna, and the ritual of worship at this temple follows the myth of Shiva's anger. Worshippers here perform traditional rituals of the Hindu religion, including abhisheka (ritual bathing of the deity for purification), arti (offering of light or lamps), homa (fire ritual), puja (worship) and aarti (invoking blessings or doing prayer). All these rituals are performed by expert priests of the temple with the help of devotees and involve the chanting of Sanskrit mantras along with ringing of bells, drums and cymbals. Prasad (blessed food) is distributed among the devotees at the end of the rituals.
