History:

Yas Marina is a recreational and retail destination located on the edge of Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The project was launched in 2007 by Abu Dhabi's Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC) as part of the larger Yas Island development. The marina opened in 2009, and the associated Formula One Yas Marina Circuit opened a month later. In 2006, TDIC announced their plans to construct a purpose-built marina on the southwest coast of Yas Island with the aim of making it an international leisure, retail and hospitality destination. The marina project was designed by Halcrow Group, a British engineering company based in London, and construction began in 2007. The marina basin was excavated over the summer and land reclamation started in November of that year. The first phase of the project was completed in June 2009, and the marina opened with numerous superyacht berths, marine retail outlets, and leisure amenities. The Formula One Yas Marina Circuit, designed by Hermann Tilke, opened just a month later in October 2009. Since its opening, the marina has become the home and staging base to some of the Middle East's most glamorous events, from Abu Dhabi Grand Prix to the Red Bull Air Race Abu Dhabi.
