History:

The Dubai Creek Park is located on the northern shore of Dubai Creek, the estuarine inlet off of the Persian Gulf. It was first established inside the Deira area in the early 1970s. It opened its gates to the public in 1975. The Creek Park was built by the Government of Dubai as an attempt to attract locals and tourists to an area that was previously sparsely populated. The park covers an area of 30 hectares and runs along the east bank of Dubai Creek from Ras Al Khor near the border between the emirates of Dubai and Sharjah, up to the fishing village of Umm Suqeim. The park is divided into four main sections. It starts with the Deira Section, which has two entrance buildings, a boat ride hall and four gates. The Deira section also houses a large park lake with 350 species of fauna, including birds, turtles and mammals. The second section of the Creek Park is the Karama Section, which is home to a 5,000-people-capacity enclosed amphitheatre. The Karama section has a football pitch, as well as a traditional Dubai souq area and an array of restaurants, cafes, shops and arcades. The third section of the park is the Garden Center Section, which has a large garden-like setting in the middle of the park. It showcases over 5,000 species of plants and various botanical ornaments. The Creek Park also has a Reception and Services Section, which houses a hatchery and display center for local fishes, replicas of ancient miniature windmills, and the ‘Equestrian Square’, which offers horse riding lessons for kids and adults alike. The Creek Park is a major tourist attraction in the United Arab Emirates. It is also a popular venue for family picnics, sports events and weekend get-aways.
