History:
The Jebel Ali Race Course began in 1983, when HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, then Crown Prince of Dubai, announced plans to establish a horse racing facility near the port of Jebel Ali in Dubai. The success of this initial venture led to the creation of the Emirates Racing Authority (ERA), UAE’s governing body of racing. The Jebel Ali Race Course, situated along the coast off Jebel Ali's Desert Road, was officially opened in 1985. The track measures approximately 1980 metres with a circumference of 1260 metres. Four stables are available for training and the track is surfaced with sand. The course is host to numerous events throughout the year, including the Dubai World Cup, the richest horse racing event in the world. The Dubai World Cup first ran its inaugural race in 1996 and has become an annual event which attracts some of the world's best horses. Other major races which take place at Jebel Ali Race Course include the Dubai Kahayla Classic, UAE 2000 Guineas, Dubai Golden Shaheen, UAE Derby, Al Maktoum Challenge Round III and The Godolphin Mile. Ladies Day, an event dedicated to female racing fans, is also held annually at the track. In addition to the lavish raceday events, the Jebel Ali Race Course is famous for its leisure and hospitality facilities.
