Dibba Al-Hisn is an ancient city located in the Fujairah Emirate of the United Arab Emirates. It is located along the southeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula, on the shores of the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Oman. Records of the history of Dibba Al-Hisn date back as far as the 4th century BC. The oldest known references to Dibba Al-Hisn come from inscriptions found at nearby teh Dilmun civilization sites in Bahrain. Dilmun inscriptions from the 4th century BC make mention of Dibba Al-Hisn as a trading post for their goods. For centuries, Dibba Al-Hisn was a port city and an important link in the trade routes of the region. It served as an entry point for merchants trading between the Gulf of Oman, and the Arabian Sea. In the 16th century, Dibba Al-Hisn became part of the Sultanate of Muscat and Oman. During this period, the city’s prosperity declined, and it became a small fishing village. However, in the early 1900s, the city revived thanks to increased trade with British India. In 1950, Dibba Al-Hisn joined the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and it is now an important port for the Emirates’ energy industry. In 2018, it was announced that Dibba Al-Hisn was selected to be the site of a new port that would specialize in the transfer of oil and gas.
