The Al Fahidi Fort, or ‘Dubai Fort’ as it is sometimes called, is a historic fort in the city of Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates. The Al Fahidi Fort, sometimes referred to as Dubai Castle, was constructed around 1799 and is one of the oldest existing buildings in Dubai. It has served as a watch-tower, garrison and a defense against attack by hostile forces. Originally made up of mud and stones set in an oyster shell layer, it was gradually rebuilt with coral stones and lime in the late 19th century. The Al Fahidi Fort is now a museum dedicated to Dubai’s heritage and history, housing many interesting artifacts from the city’s past.
