Al Majaz Park in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates has a history that dates back to the 19th century. Prior to its construction, it was a barren desert area known as Wadi Al Helw. In 1927, it was chosen as the location of a fort that was later named Al Zahra Fort. The fort was used to protect the city of Sharjah against external threats. In the 1950s, the Ruler of Sharjah at the time, Sheikh Sultan bin Saqr Al Qasimi, developed the area into a park. He employed a landscape gardener, Shirinbai G. Patel, to transform the site into a lush garden. Patel designed pathways, planted trees and grass, and constructed several buildings. By 1962, the park had been completed and opened to the public. It was officially named Al Majaz Park and it quickly became a popular outdoor recreation area for the citizens of Sharjah. In 1972, the Al Majaz fountain was added to the park, which further added to the landscape's appeal. Today, the park remains a source of joy for citizens of Sharjah.
